Of course there hasn’t ever been ‘true’ communism. They can’t get a quarter the way there without collapsing into mass murder or totalitarian nightmare. As for prosperity, are you blind? Check out UN statistics on the massive reduction of absolute poverty over the last two or three decades, thanks in large part to China’s abandonment of communism and shift to ‘controlled’ capitalism. And just historically compare where the average worker in the west was 150 years ago and today. It’s comparable to comparing with current conditions in much of the developing world, yes, but the chief difference is indeed governance that can bring people human rights and the rule of law and respond democratically to the people, the very things that allowed the west to overcome mass exploitation, eg. slave hours and wages, child labour, etc. Will it take another 150 years? I doubt it. As long as the powerful West allows nations the independence they need to develop, they will. The energy, resources and technology are all available. As long as they are not stopped by idiot Western climate policies or their own incompetent governments, they will progress rapidly. And it will be capitalism that does it.
Communism is only possible after capitalism has reached its pinnacle and the socialistic phase of society is completed. Nowhere has that happened. The attempts to implement socialism/communism from scratch have always been doomed.
Conditions in the western world changed for many reasons. Some of them: people could vote with their feet by migrating in large numbers, mainly to the USA, and much wealth was imported, taken from what we now call the underdeveloped world.
(And no, I am. not blind, but thank you for your interest.)

Mammonism and Bolshevism are Jewish stepsisters.

China is an empire, with an elective emperor chosen by mandarins and potentates like the old Mongolian Khanate.
