Make More Pie. I would say: show them how magnificent and multifaceted the world actually is. This is not a binary world, it's not like the bad people versus the good people, you know, everybody in Portland is bad except for Antifa is good. I would show them that the world is magnificent and generous and introduce them to people on a one-on-one basis. One on one, I have had both Patriot Prayer, which is kind of a right-wing Trump-supporting group from across the river in Washington, and Antifa kids, I've had, each of them wash out my eyes when I was tear-gassed. One on one, people are people.
Maybe you're a little worried about your kid, and you've got a friend who's a cop. And they like this friend that's a cop, and they realize, "Well I might hate all cops and all cops are bastards, but you know, Joe is actually okay." Show them the world in its magnificence. Don't make it black and white. Don't escalate the argument to be the right people and the wrong people. That is something that's gotten me a little bananas the past couple of years. We're supposed to be on one side or the other. We're supposed to hate those people over there, or hate those other people over there. I don't want to do that. I have a substack and I call it Make More Pie. Let's make more stuff. Let's not hate one side or the other. Let's just put more good stuff into the world.
