It’s no surprise that Peter Boghossian and Andrew Doyle (aka Titania McGrath) are friends. They both promote free speech and confront illiberalism with a combination of seriousness and irreverence.
Doyle’s latest book certainly falls on the serious side. In The New Puritans: How the Religion of Social Justice Captured the Western World, he reveals the similarities between the destructive irrationality of 17th century Salem witch trials and the illiberal collective mass delusions afflicting modern society.
In this video, Peter interviews Dr. Doyle about themes in his book, including the sly use of progressive language by Social Justice activists, the ideological capture of major institutions, new segregation, “academic shibboleths,” gender stereotypes, trans medical scandals, whistleblowers, the meaning of “left” and “right” ideology, the instinct for authoritarianism and much more.
”The New Puritans: How the Religion of Social Justice Captured the Western World” is available in all formats in the UK. In the U.S., Kindle and audiobook formats are currently available. The hardcover edition will be available in February, 2023.
Thank you so much for the work you and Andrew Doyle are doing. It helps me feel more sane as I continue to question common narratives. As a college professor, I am scared to express my concerns, and it's not just because I might lose my job. I will also lose friends. But worst of all, people who I respect will think I am a "bad" person. This hurts me so much, and so I continue to live in fear.
Brilliant discussion. It's one of the best books about the movement we're currently witnessing.
