Great conversation and article from Dr. Lee. It seems unfortunate that in some places, diversity training doesn't promote a general understanding of the differences that exist between individuals on campus, nor offer a clear depiction of where the dividing line between acceptable and unacceptable conduct lies. If I think back to the diversity training I received in the army, it included those things and broke them down so simply that there was no opening left for misinterpretation. Racism in the military is poisonous to unit cohesion and ultimately lends aid to the enemy, which is what makes that line being clear so important.

I'm sorry that Dr. Lee had to endure such frustrating circumstances, but feel grateful that her response is to stand up to the insidious ideas that yielded them.
