Birthing Person. A "birthing person" is a person who gives birth. Basically, a birthing person is a mother. The reason for the change from "mother" to "birthing person" is largely because of issues relating to trans people. A trans man is a person who was born with a vagina, but who self-identifies as a man. Trans men can give birth, yet trans men do not consider themselves mothers. Trans men do not view themselves as mothers because the word "mothers" is associated with women, and trans men do not consider themselves to be women. Trans men consider themselves to be men. Thus the term birthing person makes trans men feel welcomed and included. The woke also prefer the term “birthing person” because the word mother excludes gender non-conforming and non-binary individuals.
Yes. This one is beyond absurd. I am hearing on places like NPR, discussions of “pregnant people.” For me and many others who see ourselves as progressive or liberal, it will always be by definition, “pregnant women.”
This one irritate me a lot because it privileges gender identity over biological sex. For any discussion on reproduction, biological sex is more important. Only someone with a female sex organ and gametes can give birth. Period. Repackaging words maybe spares feelings (???) at the expense of obscuring reality.
The term birthing person is fine for a trans man to use in referring to herself (because, after all, she is a she because she has a uterus and vagina) but why should 99.9% of women who give birth and consider themselves women have to change to accommodate a tiny percentage's sensitivity to being called a mother when they identify as a father. Our country is totally bonkers. Lets call it like it is: Unless you are a seahorse, only females give birth.

Like Helen Joyce says, show me the third gamete.
