Sometimes I feel like we are doomed but I honestly believe the tide is turning. Look at us directing our attention to a social media platform where we can find decent minds.
Can I posit that while we are being preyed upon with rage porn our subconscious is hungry to tell others that we're all screwed and find our people or to unite us eventually around the fact that we are all inherently the same no matter what as we all are suffering under authoritarianism in one way, shape or form?
Questions relating to porn are among our next crop of SSE videos. We've not recorded these yet, but we're planning on doing this in LA in late February.
I meant rage porn as in the next thing we are supposed to be upset about. How fear and anger are manipulated. Similar to how food porn on the Food network is to get you hungry or vicariously live through the chef who is getting to go to so many food trucks per show. Not like real porn which is brain rot and a whole other can of worms. How the MSM and algorithm biohack our emotions and dopamine.
I don't know how thar got confused. Dopamine hacked activates the same parts of the brain as if you are chasing the dragon I don't get it? Everyone knows ticktoc and cocaine does the same thing to your brain. People literally are high on the tok I thought we all understood that.
I don't think so, I was referring to my own experience with Twitter/X. Can't tell you how many hours I've lost to random debates and arguments with total strangers lol
Ohhh bro I feel that too about FB and Insta. It's part of fear porn. Get people addicted then bring on algorithmic feed and bank of pitting people against each other. I feel like it is 100% purposeful. The attitude of people are data not to mention what's done to manipulate an emotional response is fascinating especially when how minority report its got. Snowden tried to tell everyone especially with meta data and other stuff. The cult that worships at the altar of the states acolytes of the courthouse and how screwed we all are has been a ish show and what they did was wrong to punish him for doing his civic duty and being a watchman on the wall. I have been fascinated about data ever since and how it's currency and how's its used as a means to enslave, dumb down, wreck havoc on us and so much more. Thank God for that guy.
Just wanted to say thank you both - I am now just over half way through the book and it 's exactly what I needed at the moment. I would normally be resistant too - I've lived for a long time with the chronic illness SLE, and real life socialising exhausts me. So Facebook has in many ways been a lifeline - it's where my friends are. But since the Covid lockdown particularly I have found it harder to focus and have frittered away too much of my time online and on Facebook and X/Twitter
Ironically, I would not have found this otherwise!
I will certainly be implementing some personal changes, and maybe even finish writing my novel-in-progress!
I disagree with the conclusion about evil algorithms in charge. From my experience, Telegram channels (which aren't run by algorithms but are the old style, in order of posting) have much worse outrage culture, fear porn and spam than Facebook, where I watch ballet and read poetry, and the algorithms give me more. Recommendation algorithms are just a reflection of what preferences you already have. They do grab your attention but an algorithm can't make a logical leap from calming music to an angry post, this is nonsense. Consider that people post and read angry stuff because they're already angry, not made angry by what they read. It would be the tail wagging the dog.
My observations what creates the worst experiences:
1. Brevity as it removes any context and nuance. The leader is, of course, Twitter, pushing it to extremes by limiting the number of characters. But it's also short videos and posts about controversial or sensational subjects. You can't learn anything useful about complex subjects in less than 5 minutes, but can get brainwashed and agitated.
2. Ease of sharing as it creates competition, where the most extreme headlines win.
3. The nature of the internet communication itself, not being the same as communication in person. Nobody has the time to read long explanations and a number of articles shared every day, so people pay attention only to the most sensational headlines. And typing is time consuming, they get annoyed.
Bottom line, don't consume fast food for the mind. Read books, long reads, watch long interviews, documentaries. Explain everything in your own words. Talk in person.

It's truly addictive, especially arguing with strangers. Great talk!
Was I arguing?
