I have a few questions about an open borders policy and their impact on the host country…

1. What would be the impact to housing with regard to the cost of renting and/or buying a home? We already have a shortage of housing which is causing housing prices to explode.

2. What would be the impact to wages, not just for unskilled/low skilled workers but in the professional sector? Would wages decline for the professional class as well as unskilled workers? Would the supply of jobs decrease? And if everyone automatically becomes citizens, how will that affect the wages of under the table workers (therefore increasing prices) considering the number of employers/private citizens who pay cash to undocumented workers?

3. What would be the impact to the cost and access to healthcare? Would we see a decrease in access and increase in prices?

4. What would be the impact to goods and services? Would the increase in demand cause prices to increase?

Excellent!

I don't see how #1 can be anything but a disaster for middle income and young people.

I do not know the data well enough to comment on #2.

#3, it seems like the data is in, see my conversation with Eric Kaufmann. (Hint, it's not looking good.)

#4, ditto re my response to #2.

Thanks for the reply!

I asked #2 because of my own experience working in I/T and what I personally experienced with wage stagnation and opportunity due to the H1B visa program. I was curious to know if there were larger studies available on that subject.

I suspect that may be the reason the professor had the experience he did with Australia. They may be protecting the wages of people in professional class positions.?
