If kids were taught impactful history like who was the first president and what was significant about him (other then he owned slaves) they'd know why Taiwan is important. It's not inly a industrial foothold due to it's CHIPs business but it's also strategically valuable to those in the Pacific. I can't provide details on how its militarily impactful but I did get thru government schools early enough that they were still teaching history and thus understand Taiwan's importance
You do realize that this dumbing down is not unintentional yes? Those with the resources and power to do so have been seeking for a long time to re-take control of society so that it was like before where nobility ruled over the majority peasant class. The rise of the middle class was s direct threat tp the ruling order and they were NOT happy with it. Anyone who dismisses claims of an organized effort by those with power/resources to re-take control is at best misguided. They don't want to believe that things are beyond their control.
Those from royal blood/families have NEVER stopped believing their are ordained by a higher power to rule. What changed is their realization that the only way to do this successfully and for the long term is if they get the masses, the peasant class, to voluntarily go along with this. Many can deny this but just ask yourself this, if you were a multi-billionaire would you use your resources to fix what you see as a major crisis to humanity? The answer is of course you would. People deny this b t/chey don't want to acknowledge how little power/control they have over their lives at current especially those with degrees in higher indoctrination.
Gibraltarians echoed that sentiment inasmuch as they do not want to become a part of Spain. I know there is a considerable size difference but China wanting Taiwan back is like Britain calling for the return of the US.

Denying reality is the fools path.
The Brits called, they want their colony back.
I frequently asked guests if Taiwan would like to be the 51st state. Not a single person said yes.

The "Iron" bank is the damn problem.
